For safety reasons, SentriLock will not dispatch a locksmith to remove or access a lockbox attached to a gas meter.
What if a lockbox is already on a gas meter?
Lockboxes should never be attached to a gas meter. If your lockbox is attached to one, remove it immediately. If you have difficulty removing the lockbox, or if you discover a lockbox belonging to another member on a gas meter, contact SentriLock support for guidance on having it removed.
If locksmith service is required, SentriLock will confirm whether the lockbox is under warranty and provide instructions on next steps. While SentriLock will not arrange for a locksmith to attend the property, members may be eligible for reimbursement if they are instructed to arrange the service themselves. Members should receive approval from SentriLock before hiring a locksmith, as costs incurred without prior approval may not be reimbursed.
Once approved, SentriLock will reimburse eligible costs up to:
• $150 for cutting the lockbox shackle
• $250 for cutting the shackle and extracting a key from the key compartment
When the locksmith service is complete, send the receipt to locksmith@sentrilock.com, along with the name and mailing address of the person the reimbursement cheque should be made payable to.
Avoid the hassle: choose your lockbox location carefully
Before installing a lockbox, take a moment to consider whether its location could create a safety concern or make it difficult to remove if something goes wrong.
Keeping lockboxes off gas meters helps avoid unnecessary safety risks, avoid unnecessary hassle and maintains compliance with CREB® Rules.
