October JMSC update to members

After recent facilitated CREB®-RAE merger discussion update sessions from T3 Sixty in Calgary and Edmonton, the Joint Merger Steering Committee (JMSC) would like to share an update with all members of both organizations. We heard a lot of good questions at the sessions and want to keep members as fully informed as possible.

Working groups

Those who have volunteered for the working groups will be contacted soon, and we will announce those configurations after all the volunteers have confirmed their participation. There was a robust response and we are excited to have so many members participate in the discussions!

Costs

The costs of the merger discussion will be determined by the scope of our work and the amount we rely on consultants and subject matter experts. For both organizations, while these are unbudgeted expenditures, any associated costs will be managed under our current budgeting and will not be passed along to members as a new, additional fee.

Whether the two organizations merge, these costs are an investment in the futures of both organizations and their members. What we learn through this process will be used to position the organizations to provide services that better meet the current needs of members and that help members overcome future challenges, take advantage of opportunities, and contribute to the success of their businesses.

The why

The question is not whether the current model works today. CREB® and RAE have a strong history of serving their members well. The question is whether it will be the best model tomorrow.

The real estate industry is changing rapidly through technology, consumer expectations, regulatory complexity and evolving demands on REALTORS®. Responsible organizations periodically invest time and resources to assess whether their structures, services, and ways of working are positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities.

Ultimately, the goal is to ensure REALTORS® remain well positioned for the future. Whether the exploration validates the current model or identifies a better alternative, the investment in this work will give members and both organizations the information they need to consider the best path forward. Members will participate in that discussion and ultimately decide.

Monthly townhall meetings

T3 Sixty and the JSMC will be holding online monthly townhall meetings for CREB® and RAE members. For a list of dates and times, go to:
