As the announcement on May 21 said, these discussions are in the beginning stages. No decisions have been made. The Boards of Directors of the two organizations are looking at whether a merger would benefit members. If they find that members would benefit, a comprehensive proposal of what a merger would look like would be developed. The final decision of whether to merge or not would be made by members of CREB® and RAE through votes at each organization.
The next step is for CREB® and RAE to select a consultant that specializes in this area to put structure around the discussions. This will ensure that both organizations do the proper due diligence and conduct meaningful member consultation throughout. We expect to be able to provide an update on the results of the selection process in a month. Should the consultation and discussions lead to a proposal worthy of a vote by members, the entire process will take around a year.
In the meantime, we’ve created the Exploring a Joint Future with RAE hub on CREB®Link to serve as a central location for information on the discussions. This includes FAQs that we’ll add to as we have new information for members. In fact, based on a suggestion from a member (thanks!), we’ve already updated the answer to the question “Why is direct membership in CREA part of this?”
If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, we’d like to know. You can send them to CREB® President and CEO Alan Tennant through the Ask a Question link on the hub’s main page.
