A recent op-ed in the Calgary Herald by former city councillor Terry Wong called for a reset on Calgary’s approach to blanket rezoning, contributing to the ongoing conversation about how best to support housing supply, community planning and long-term growth.
CREB® has remained actively engaged in these discussions, emphasizing the need for balanced policy and responsible growth strategies that increase housing supply while safeguarding infrastructure capacity, affordability objectives and the vitality and character of our communities.
As part of this work, CREB® leadership will be participating in public hearings on citywide rezoning which began Monday, March 23. CREB® Chief Economist, Ann-Marie Lurie, and Chair, Susanita de Diego, will share perspectives that reinforce the importance of policies that are practical, transparent and aligned with the needs of Calgary’s evolving housing market.
CREB® will continue to monitor developments and advocate for solutions that support a strong, sustainable real estate sector while meeting the needs of communities across Calgary.
Members can watch the public hearing live at Council and Committee webcasts.
