New REMapList™ feature helps identify CEIP Properties

By CREB®

The Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) is a financing program run by Alberta Municipalities that loans residential property owners up to $50,000 of the upfront costs of energy-efficiency and renewable energy upgrades.

Participants repay the loan over time through their property tax bill, as per their Clean Energy Improvement Agreement. The financing is tied to the property—not the owner—and may be transferred to a new owner if the property is sold.

Knowing where to look for this information will help you prepare your client for a smooth transition.

Check whether a property has participated in CEIP using one of the methods below.

1. Use the new REMapList™ feature that allows users to determine whether a property is participating in the Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), as shown here:

2. Contact the City of Calgary at ceip@calgary.ca to determine whether a CEIP loan is attached to a property before listing or writing an offer.

For more information, visit the Resources section of the City’s Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) webpage, where you'll find the Selling or Buying a Property with a Clean Energy Improvement Tax info sheet and other helpful resources.

Read the May 4, 2026 CREB®Talk article to learn more about CEIP and understand the financial obligations that may be associated with a participating property.
