Important lockbox operational notice, warranty and maintenance tips

By CREB®

Proper lockbox use helps ensure safe, uninterrupted access during showings. In addition to routine maintenance and placement best practices, the following information is provided for awareness.

There are two SentriLock lockbox models currently in circulation. Both models use the same mobile application and authorization process. However, the internal key compartments open differently.

When thin tags, lanyards, or other small non-key items are placed inside the compartment of the newer lockboxes, the items may shift into the side channels and obstruct the locking mechanism.

To mitigate the risk of jamming or mechanical failure:

• Only place standard keys or sufficiently thick items inside the lockbox.

• Avoid thin, flexible or loose items that could migrate into the compartment walls.

• Do not store tags, lanyards or similar accessories inside the lockbox.

• Do not force the box closed, as something may be jamming it.

Following these guidelines will help protect the lockbox mechanism and reduce the likelihood of access issues during showings.

Lockbox warranty and general maintenance

SentriLock lockboxes include a seven-year warranty for defects and service. Lockboxes purchased in 2019 will reach warranty expiration this year. Once the warranty expires:

• The lockbox will continue to function.

• CREB® will continue to replace batteries as needed.

• The lockbox will not be replaced or exchanged.

• If locksmith services are required, members must arrange them independently.

Members will receive an email reminder as warranty expiration approaches. When selling a used lockbox, please disclose whether any warranty remains.

When purchasing a used lockbox, members are encouraged to confirm warranty coverage.

Additional maintenance tips include:

• Rotate lockbox inventory to preserve battery life.

• Install software updates to improve performance and battery efficiency.

• Close the lockbox when not in use.

• Replace batteries when a low-battery message appears, or every five years.

Lockbox placement and safety

To support member safety and protect property:

• Secure lockboxes to fixed, solid objects whenever possible.

• In condo buildings, consider securing lockboxes inside the lobby.

• Report stolen lockboxes to police and SentriLock immediately.

• Place lockboxes in visible, well-lit locations.

• Be parkade smart — do not allow vehicles to follow you in, and do not leave keys or unlocked vehicles unattended.
