Stronger conversations start here: CREB® Talkers Toastmasters open house on Feb. 5

By CREB®
Every client conversation matters. From explaining market conditions to negotiating offers and leading meetings, REALTORS® rely on clear, confident communication every day.

CREB® members are invited to attend a CREB® Talkers Toastmasters Club open house on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at CREB® Campus in the back boardroom (south side). The informal "meet and greet" will feature a demonstration meeting and a question-and-answer session. Snacks will be provided, and no registration is required.

Toastmasters is widely recognized for helping professionals sharpen public speaking, active listening and leadership skills — tools that directly support stronger client relationships and enhanced professionalism.

Why Toastmasters works

CREB® CEO Alan Tennant, who joined Toastmasters early in his real estate career, credits the program with helping him communicate more effectively.

"I joined Toastmasters hoping to become more confident speaking publicly," Tennant said. "Along the way, I became a better listener too."

Tennant joined the Airdrie Discovery Toastmasters Club shortly after it was formed in 1986. He said Toastmasters helped him learn how to say less, make more impactful points and actively listen — skills he sees as essential for REALTORS® working with clients.

"It's a safe learning environment where coaching, coaxing and co-learning happen," he said. "Even evaluating someone else's effort becomes a learning opportunity."

That supportive culture, Tennant noted, is what makes Toastmasters valuable for professionals at every stage of their careers.

Why Toastmasters matters for REALTORS®

For REALTORS®, communication skills go far beyond presentations. They support better client conversations, clearer explanations of complex information, stronger negotiations and more confident leadership within the profession.

One of CREB®'s strategic pillars is focused on raising the bar of professionalism. "Having this club meet in our house is an example of the importance of always working to better ourselves", said Tennant.
