ICYMI: Online scam alert

By CREB®
CREB® and real estate boards across Canada have been made aware of a potential scam targeting REALTORS®

An unknown individual is contacting members through what appears to be Realtor.ca inquiries.  After requesting more information, they ask to meet via Teams or Zoom, sending a link that then prompts the REALTOR® to “Update Teams” or install software.

Please do not install or update anything from these links. This is likely a malicious attempt to compromise your device.

How to protect yourself:

Only update Teams or Zoom through the official app— not through meeting links

Verify the identity of anyone requesting a virtual meeting

Be cautious of unexpected downloads or update prompts

Report any suspicious messages or links to the Board

If you clicked on a suspicious link

Stop using the device and disconnect from the internet

Do not enter any login credentials

Contact your IT support technician

Please stay vigilant and let us know of any similar incidents at support@creb.ca. This way, we can keep our members informed about cyber security risks.
