New scam targeting REALTORS®

By CREB®
Members have reported being impersonated in networking apps. As part of the scam, social engineers are using their names to bait other CREB® members to accept an invitation for leads, stating they work for an organization within organized real estate.

Please be careful and do not accept any of these invitations, especially if their titles are wrong. These are likely malicious attempts to compromise your device.

How to protect yourself:

• Verify the identity of anyone requesting to connect with you through apps like Alignable either by checking the member’s official REALTOR.ca or social media profiles or by reaching out

• Be cautious of unexpected email invitations with suspicious links

• Report any suspicious messages, emails or links to CREB®

If you clicked on a suspicious link:

• Stop using the device and disconnect it from the internet

• Do not enter any login credentials

• Contact your IT support technician

Please stay vigilant and let us know of any similar incidents at support@creb.ca. This way, we can keep our members informed about new cyber security risks as they appear.
