In December of 1995, the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in Canada, following a motion introduced by the Honourable Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament. 

With over 75,000 Filipinos, Calgary is home to one of the largest Filipino communities in Canada. This June, we honour Filipino hard work and contributions, as well as their heritage, culture and its transmission to new generations in our city and beyond.
