The Calgary civic election is still a few months away, but it is already on Calgarians’ radar. This election is a pivotal opportunity for Calgarians to shape housing policy that reflects their needs.
After CREB® announced the YYC Votes 2025 campaign last week, CTV News conducted an interview with the Government Relations Standing Committee (GRSC) Chair, Christian Twomey, to find out more about the campaign and key housing issues.

The campaign also got the attention of two mayoral candidates, Jeff Davidson and Sonya Sharp. They shared CREB®’s stance on the five housing challenges identified by the GRSC along with some of their own thoughts on their social media platforms.
Councillor candidates who all shared our message on their social channels are Kim Tyers, Ward 1 candidate, Rob Ward, Ward 11 candidate, Shane Byciuk, Ward 12 candidate and Dan McLean, Ward 13 candidate.
The goal of the YYC Votes 2025 campaign is to raise the profile of housing issues in the 2025 civic election, as well as to demonstrate the expertise that REALTORS® bring to their clients. The specific areas identified to highlight are:
- Planned Growth
- Blanket Rezoning
- Barriers to Homeownership
- Increases in Property Tax
- Digital Energy Labeling
The campaign includes media outreach and communications to mayoral and councillor candidates to raise these issues and position CREB® and REALTORS® as trusted experts on how to solve them.
