Provincial budget update on land transfer fee

By CREB®

Last week, the Government of Alberta announced an increase in the land titles registration fee. The province’s fiscal plan couldn’t specify when these changes would come into effect but said the related legislation would be tabled this spring.

AREA has responded to this news from the province saying, "AREA is committed to working with Government in support of these efforts. AREA commends the Government for keeping the land titles system a public, government-owned resource.

Looking to the future, once the land titles modernization project has been successfully completed, AREA is committed to advocating for the subsequent removal of the increased fee. AREA believes this will further encourage land ownership and will facilitate an efficient real estate practice."
