Update from the BOD

Amidst many updates and decisions, the latest CREB® Board of Directors meeting showcased a proactive approach toward enhancing member services, governance initiatives, and strategic planning for the future. 

This approach reflects the objectives of the current 2023-2025 strategic plan, which focuses on achieving positive outcomes that enhance, promote and protect our members. 

Board meeting highlights 

Here are some highlights from the Board of Directors meeting report for the meeting held on Dec. 13, 2023: 

  • Chair Twomey opened the final meeting of the year with updates on recent events, including the formation of CREA’s new REALTOR.ca Task Force and discussions regarding the NAR NXT - The REALTOR® Experience.
  • The Board approved a three-year contract with Rogers Communications to provide internet services to the CREB® building at 300 Manning Road N.E.
  • Successful networking events were held, including a New Professionals Much & Mingle and a General Member Munch & Mingle. Both events received positive feedback from attendees.
  • The CREB® Training team reported strong member engagement, with 162 educational sessions held in 2023, resulting in over 8,900 member registrations.
  • Recommendations from various committees were approved, including MLS® System image requirements, retiring COVID-19 rule relaxations, and forming a joint task force to assess member communication on the merger and CREB® Campus movements.
  • Director elections took place in November, with 960 members casting 1,685 votes. Newly elected Directors Matt McBean and Len T. Wong, along with re-elected Director Dan Stante, will join the 2024 Board.
  • Several members were appointed to the CIBS Board of Directors and the CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation Board of Governors.
  • Updates were provided on government relations activities, including attendance at AREA GL Days, and the completion of the annual CEO performance review.
  • The Board approved the reallocation of $1,500,000 from CREB®’s unrestricted members’ equity account to the equity internally restricted capital reserve account to fund upcoming building renovations.
  • The CREB® Campus hub was launched on CREB®Link along with ongoing member communication to keep stakeholders informed about project milestones and updates.

About CREB® BOD meeting reports 

In February 2020, the board of directors began generative discussions on how to best communicate topics being covered at the board table. 

After a detailed review, the Governance Standing Committee made a recommendation to amend the CREB® Governance Manual Policy 2.1.6 Board Meeting Policy to require the posting of a board meeting report. Now, following each board meeting, a meeting report will be shared with members that summarizes what was discussed.
