Mandatory masks at CREB®

By CREB®

On July 21, Calgary City Council approved a bylaw for mandatory masks for all indoor public spaces, effective Aug. 1.

Our commitment to the health and safety of our staff and members remains top priority at CREB®.

Beginning Aug. 1, members and any other visitors who enter the CREB® building are required to wear a mask or face covering.

As our city continues to open up and as we prepare for a possible increase in the spread of the virus, using a mask or face covering is one more measure to protect ourselves, our families and our communities from this virus. To achieve this, we need to implement this measure as required by the temporary by-law put in place by the City of Calgary.

The following people are exempt from the requirement to wear a mask or face covering:

  • People with underlying medical conditions or disabilities inhibiting their ability to wear a face covering;
  • People who are unable to place, use or remove a face covering safely without assistance;
  • People who are eating or drinking; and
  • Children under 2 years of age.

Signage about the requirement to wear masks or face coverings will be posted prominently at all entrances of the building. Face masks, hand sanitizer and gloves will also be made available at the front entrance of the building for members and visitors.

This policy will be implemented and enforced in good faith to ensure the health and safety of all members and staff.

Remember, the best way to protect yourself and help #StopTheSpread is to:

  • Clean your hands often;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
  • Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces;
  • Ensure your greetings are touchless (virtual high-fives everyone!);
  • Follow mask use guidance in public places; and
  • Follow physical distancing guidelines.

If you think you may have difficulty wearing a mask or face covering, we encourage you to try different types of face coverings that may work better for you.

The mask or face covering must cover the nose, mouth and chin. Please watch these videos from the World Health Organization to learn how to properly wear a disposable mask or a re-usable fabric mask.

Given the fluidity of the situation, these details are subject to change based on the current public health guidance, with a reassessment of policies and activities as we approach September.
