Avoid telemarketing tickets

By CREB®

In the ever-changing world of real estate, REALTORS® and industry partners continue to find new opportunities to develop their business and find efficient ways to grow their client base.

Lead generation tools have been incorporated into many real estate businesses, so it’s important to ensure the lead generating services are in line with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

REALTip: All real estate professionals must abide by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission’s (CRTC) Unsolicited Telecommunication Rules as well as the policies of the National Do Not Call List. Telemarketing services hired by companies, real estate professionals and/or brokerages must also follow these federally mandated policies.

Members who are using lead generating services are encouraged to review the CRTC’s Unsolicited Telecommunication Rules. Members should also review their business practices, and the practices of any third-party contractors telemarketing on their behalf, to be sure they are aligned with the rules.

If it is discovered that the rules and policies have been violated, sanctions (such as fines) can be imposed. The CRTC has commented on fines that have been issued in the mortgage and real estate industries in Real Estate Magazine’s recent article on Agents and Brokerages fined for breaking telemarketing rules.
