Fraudulent Listings and Spam

By CREB®
CREA has made us aware of some recent incidents involving REALTOR® targeted spam.

The offenders are using the domain name realtor.com-buyers.info.

In some instances, a REALTOR.ca logo will be attached to the message to give the illusion that the sender is from REALTOR.ca. The same spam has also been used to target other real estate websites in certain instances.

Along with spam emails, there have been cases where individual listings are copied and used as the basis for a fraudulent ad on another website such as Craig’s List or Kijiji.

CREA has software that prevents listing content from being scraped from REALTOR.ca or downloaded in bulk. Unfortunately, CREA can’t prevent people from manually copying individual listings, and in these cases, they rely on members to bring unauthorized listings to their attention.
