Educate to elevate

By CREB®
Education is the first step in the journey to elevate professionalism in the real estate industry. In order to provide further clarity to the CREB® Rules and ensure that compliance is carried out in a measured approach, CREB®’s Board of Directors have approved the following changes.

Rule Change

As of July 9, 2019, the first notification for summary offences, referred to as a Warning Letter in CREB® Rules Part I, II and III, will be replaced with an Educational Advisory.

CREB® Rules Part I, II and III will also be revised so that minor infractions to the rules, such as having a listing withdrawn for over 10 days, will move through the summary offence process instead of through the Administrative Justice process.

Summary Offences

Previously, numerous minor infractions had to proceed through the Administrative Justice process if they were violated. The rules updates will include revisions so that these minor offences move through the summary offence process as a more appropriate form of compliance.

Educational Advisories

The Educational Advisory will be the first touchpoint to correct member conduct in the summary offence process. The advisory will explain the rule the member has violated and the requirements they must meet through its education first, compliance second approach.

The shift to an Educational Advisory will enable us to ensure our members know what’s expected of them in the industry and help to prevent future rule violation.
