Building community

It takes a village. It’s a well-worn phrase that tells the story of Habitat for Humanity, an organization that believes deeply in the value of sweat equity.

CREB® Charitable Foundation shares the same belief, in particular that every family deserves to have a roof over their head and a place to call home. It’s why we made the big decision to enter into a three-year community partnership with Habitat, which we formally announced at our AGM earlier this week.

“I’m so excited for the year ahead," said Alyssa Campos CREB® Charitable Foundation president. "We have been working to align our vision and goals with CREB®’s larger strategic plan and focus on legacy projects that will have the greatest impact.”

During their AGM, the Foundation announced a substantial contribution of $1,000,000 to Habitat over the course of three years.

“We are so grateful for the incredible commitment the CREB® Charitable Foundation has made to us," said Gerrad Oishi, president & CEO, Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. "Our partnership is unique because they really understand the stability that home ownership can bring to families. Together we’re going to help transform the lives of working families with children for generations to come.”

Aside from the powerful impact that this donation will have on affordable housing in Calgary, it will provide a clear focus that REALTORS® can get behind.

It's national volunteer week! Did you know?

  • Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta operates in 25 communities across Calgary.
  • Families who are selected for a Habitat house contribute 500 volunteer hours, take classes in money management and property maintenance before getting the house and beginning to pay the mortgage.
  • World wide, Habitat completes a home every 51/2 minutes.
  • Habitat was started in the USA in the early 70’s. The original idea was based on the barn raising concept in rural communities where neighbours would come together to build barns for one another.
